Hypoglycemia
Natural Prevention and
Low Blood Sugar Diet
Webmaster note: The auther
of this section is a former sufferer of hypoglycemia, and has recovered from the condition
completely. During his bout with low blood sugar, he studied its causes and what could be
done to reverse it. His success is the reason he has been asked to write a little about
this topic and the Symptoms Of High Low Blood Sugar. Of course, his article focuses on the
causes that applied to the type of condition he had. There may be other causes for
hypoglycemia that are not addressed here.
Hello. I'm convinced that my
hypoglycemia was caused by the results of excessive distress, pure and not so simple.
I'd been under a combination of increasing stressors for about 5 years. I
became excessively sensitized to the point where even mild stresses were exaggerated and
very unconfortable. My adrenals and pancreas became too easily triggered, and this
seemed to effect other glands and hormone systems until the endocrine system was out of
balance. I adjusted my diet to exclude simple sugars and increase proteins and fats.
This seemed to reduce the stimulation of excessive insulin. I also learned
over time to deal more effectively with the stressors and to build my body back to health
with the appropriate supplements, such as natural blood sugar stabilizers. So, here
is some information you may find helpful. Although I've done quite a bit of research
on the topic, and so can you, I am not including source material for the sake of time, so
must qualify all of this section and page as my opinion. That is my disclaimer.
Hypogycemia is often thought of as the
opposite of diabetes, but is actually related to and rather common in diabetics. It
even shares some of the symptoms of diabetes. Also, because low blood sugar can be
the result of an imbalanced endocrine system, it.can actually lead to Type II diabetes if
left uncontrolled.
Also, certain Weight Loss Programs may be
at odds with your new low blood sugar. If you are on one of these Weight Loss
Programs, you should be able to overcome this problem with the use of some of the products
suggested below.
Symptoms of hypoglycemia are many, and can
include fatigue; general discomfort, uneasiness, or ill feeling (malaise); nervousness,
irritability, or even aggression; trembling; headache; unusual hunger; cold sweats; rapid
heart beat; blurry or double vision; confusion; convulsions; coma. Other symptoms
that may occur are excessive sweating; sleeping difficulty; paleness; muscle pain; memory
loss; heart palpitations, or feeling your heartbeat (heartbeat sensations); anxiety and
excessive fears; emotional depression; hallucinations; fainting; different size pupils;
dizziness.
In normal sugar metabolism, sugars enter
the blood stream from the digestive system. The rising blood sugar level is detected
and the pancreas secretes insulin into the blood stream, which converts the sugar to
starch for storage in the liver, thereby maintaining appropriate blood sugar levels.
In diabetes situations, insufficient insulin is produced, so the blood sugar level
rises excessively. But, if the pancreas secretes too much insulin, too much blood
sugar is converted and the result is hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar. A similar
condition results if a diabetic person receives an excessively high dose of insulin, which
is sometimes called insulin shock.
So, in cases of low blood sugar in
non-diabetics, what causes this overreaction of the pancreas? I must mention
the possibilities of a physical abnormality pancreas or liver, but I believe the most
common causes have to do with sensitization of the pancreas in either of two ways:
- Sugar or alcohol overstimulation:
If the diet contains too much simple sugar (or alcohol, which is metabolized
similarly to sugar), the pancreas is stimulated to produce much insulin at frequent
intervals. Like an overworked muscle, the pancreas can both build its capacity to
produce insulin AND can become exhausted. An exhausted, high capacity pancreas can
overreact and cause low blood sugar. If the exhaustion becomes irreversible, the
pancreas may not recover fully, and diabetes type II may result.
- Excessive stress or anxiety over
time: Stress stimulates the adrenal glands to produce adrenalin, so
that the body is prepared to react to the stressor. (This is sometimes called the
"fight or flight" syndrome and is described in the section of this website on Stress.) As the adrenalin is released, so is insulin, in an
effort to provide the muscles needed for fight or flight with sufficient energy in the
form of blood sugar. If the stress is excessive in magnitute and duration, both the
adrenal glands and the pancreas can increase their capacity and become fatigued.
Again, an exhausted, high capacity pancreas can overreact and cause low blood sugar.
Likewise, exhausted, high capacity adrenals can overreact and cause anxiety
and/or depression. If the glandular exhaustion becomes
irreversible, the diabetes type II may result from pancreas damage, and Addison's disease
may result from adrenal damage.
The solutions include removing the cause
and then resting and rebuilding the exhausted pancreas. Here are some suggestions:
- See a good physician to have the condition
diagnosed. Have your doctor help you to understand the nature of your condition,
it's likely causes and as any suggestions for recovery.
- Do what you can to rest the exhausted
system(s). This may mean managing your stress and especially your reaction to it.
There are some very good books on the subject, such as
How to Stop Worrying and Start Living by Dale Carnegie
Learn how to use such tools as the
Holmes
Stress Scale.
Try to eliminate as much simple sugar from your diet as possible.
Begin to improve your diet and use high-quality, natural nutritional suplements to
re-build your body back to full health. Include a blood sugar stabilization
supplement, such as Bios Life 2® (see below for a risk-free trial offer).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Because
of the blood sugar stabilization properties of Bios Life 2® - Natural, many who
use it find their problems with Diabetes, Hypoglycemia, and resulting mood swings in PMS,
depression and anxiety to be significantly improved. Stress is more easily coped
with. Some diabetics who monitor their blood sugar levels have found they need far less
Insulin than before starting on Bios Life 2® - Natural, or even
none at all!
According to
the study entitled, "BENEFICIAL EFFECTS OF HIGH DIETARY FIBER INTAKE IN PATIENTS WITH
TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS" in N Engl J Med 2000;342:1392-8, "A high
intake of dietary fiber, particularly of the soluble type, above the
level recommended by the ADA, improves glycemic control, decreases hyperinsulinemia, and
lowers plasma lipid concentrations in patients with type 2 diabetes."
Bios Life 2 ®
- Natural (60 Packets), Bios Life 2® - Natural (13.3 oz.
Canister) and the new Bios Life 2®
- Natural Tropical Fruit flavor
(60 Packets contain a specially
developed dietary supplement fiber complex under Patent no. 4,883,788 and 4,824,672 for
the "Method and Composition For Reducing Serum Cholesterol." Bios Life 2® - Natural is not a chemical appetite suppressant
or a meal replacement, and when mixed with water and taken prior to meals, creates a
comfortable, full feeling, giving greater control at meals and the desire to eat
less. Each serving of Bios Life 2® - Natural contains
a scientific complex of dietary fibers including: Guar and Locust Bean Gums, Pectin, Oat
Fiber, Gum Acacia, Barley Fiber and Stevia. It is fortified with antioxidant
vitamins, Calcium, Chromemate®, B vitamins and other essential nutrients.
These fibers, both soluble and insoluble, are widely recognized for their health
benefits and contribute to a well-balanced, complete weight management program as well.
Bios Life 2® - Natural contains no artificial flavors, colors
or sweeteners, and is certified Kosher.
High LDL serum cholesterol is
associated with clogging of arteries with plaque. This plaque restricts blood flow,
causing (depending on which arteries are most affected) hypertension (high blood
pressure), heart attack, stroke, diminished brain function, poor circulation and numbness
(or worse) of feet and hands. Since Bios Life 2® - Natural reduces the LDL levels, these health
problems can often be avoided.
According to
the study by Giovannucci E; Stampfer MJ; Colditz G; Rimm EB; Willett WC, reported in the
Journal of the National Cancer Institute, 1992 Jan 15, 84(2):91-8, a diet high in
fiber and low in saturated fats reduces the risk of colorectal adenoma. Bios Life 2® - Natural will
simplify making your diet rich in their synergistic combination of fibers.
According to the Uruguay
study by De Stefani E , Correa P , Ronco A , Mendilaharsu M , Guidobono M ,
Deneo-Pellegrini H, reported in the Registro Nacional de Cancer, Montevideo, Uruguay. Nutr
Cancer 1997;28(1):14-9, "dietary fiber and total nonstarch polysaccharides were associated with
a strong reduction in risk of breast cancer." Again, Bios Life 2® - Natural will
simplify making your diet rich in their synergistic combination of fibers.
Bios Life 2® - Natural has been
shown in double-blind studies and in hundreds of documented case histories to effectively
lower elevated serum cholesterol without the negative side effects of cholesterol lowering
prescription drugs. If you have elevated serum cholesterol, why not try Bios Life 2® - Natural after a
cholesterol blood test? Then, you can verify the results after 60 days with another
blood test.
